Week 3

Another great week is almost at an end and what an eventful week.  The children are really starting to find their feet at preschool. Beginning to make new friends and learn how to react to differing situations.

We have discussed Chinese new year making fried rice as in our previous post. The Kangaroos and Bilbies have made lanterns and the Koalas and Echidnas have made kites enjoying the good luck of the colour red.

Last night we had our Welcome BBQ, it was wonderful to see so many families come out to meet and mingle in the Fraser environment.

Cooking at Preschool

We have begun to investigate multi-cultural festivals and decided to cook fried rice, to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Here is our fabulous recipe, which can be adapted to individual tastes.

Ingredients:
5 cups cooked rice
2 teaspoons of vegetable oil
2 eggs (optional)
1 cup peas/beans
1 cup corn
½ carrot, finely diced
shallots
200g cooked bacon/ham chopped(optional)
Soy sauce to serve (optional)

1.   Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a pan.
2.   Add the carrot and spring onion and lightly cook. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
3.   Heat remaining oil in the pan.
4.   Beat eggs in small bowl and add to pan.
5.   When egg is almost cooked add the cold rice and mix together.
6.   Add the thawed peas and corn and carrot and spring onions.
7.   Heat through and serve with soy sauce.

Gardening Green Thumbs

This week we have busy caring for our vegetable garden. We have pulled out our potatoes and then steamed them. The preschoolers who chose to taste them said they were delicious, even asking for seconds!

We have now planted pumpkins, sunflowers and a variety of herbs.

We can't wait for them to grow.

Week 1

What a wonderful week we had to start the year. Lovely new faces all eager to start their schooling life.  We are learning about sitting on a mat and using our listening skills. We met lots of new people and are learning how to explore together. We have played inside and outside learning how new equipment works and exploring wonderful environments.  I hope all the families involved in Fraser Preschool have a wonderful journey throughout this year.

Coming up we have our welcome BBQ next Wednesday night (21st) from 5.30 - 7pm I hope to see lots of you there to meet and mingle with.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who have welcomed me into the Fraser community with open arms. I look forward to a very productive and happy year.
